Established by the Portuguese Province of the Hospitaller Order of S. João de Deus (PPOHSJD) on 20 November 2006, Fundação S. João de Deus (FSJD) is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS), with public utility status, dedicated to helping the sick and those most in need. As a Non-Governmental Development Organization (NGDO), the institution aims to coordinate or support other initiatives – mainly in developing and underdeveloped countries – such as humanitarian aid in emergencies or public calamities, rehabilitation and social and community development. To this end, the Foundation supports the missions of the Brothers throughout the world, seeking to promote the resolution of the most urgent problems in each region.
